System settings§

The 2step system settings encompass things like clock behavior, interface options, accessibility options, and more. Its first page is identical to the first page of the patch settings, except that you can defer from the system to the patch setting for each of them.

Page 1: Clock and Load§

External clock enable§

By default, the internal 2step clock is used at the w input is readily usable as a CV input. When the external clock is enabled, the internal clock is disabled and the transport controls no longer have any tangible effect—everything is driven by the clock input.

You can defer this setting to its counterpart in the patch settings.

External reset enable§

The external reset will reset all channel step positions and voltages regardless of the current clock source. By default, it is enable, and so the z CV input is reset-sensitive. If you disable this option, the z CV input becomes more easily usable.

You can defer this setting to its counterpart in the patch settings.

Patch load step§

By default, the step position of each channel is reset to the beginning of the sequence when a patch is loaded. You can select the hold option to preserve the step position as the patch is loaded, or saved to recall the step position from the saved patch state.

Patch load value§

By default, the voltage of each channel is reset to 0 volts when a patch is loaded. You can select the hold option to preserve the voltage as the patch is loaded, or saved to recall the voltage from the saved patch state.

Patch quickload step§

Identical to the patch load step, except this is the setting applied when you hasten a load using the shift button.

Identical to the patch load voltage, except this is the setting applied when you hasten a load using the shift button.

Page 2: Interface and Accessibility§

Startup state§

By default, 2step starts with its internal clock running. For those who prefer their system to start up inert, you can choose stop.

Limit step blinking§

If the blink indicator each time a step occurs is overwhelming, you can choose limit to display the flash only on the home screen.

Double-tap interval§

In the few instances a double-tap on a button is required (changing value ranges, for example), you can tune how long the window is. Longer windows give more time but are more prone to accidental activation.

At the short setting, the second tap must come within a quarter of a second. Medium gives you 850ms, and a long interval yields a 1.5s window to get the second tap in.

As mentioned in more detail in the interface introduction, when you enter a new screen you can either tap the button that opens it to latch it open, or hold it down in which case it closes as soon as you let go. This is the hybrid menu hold mode.

If you prefer only one or the other behavior, you can select toggle to only accept taps to latch, or hold to require all menus to be held open to stay open.

Button select target§

When you edit a parameter with the knob, the step buttons will by default select a channel target for the knob. However, the left and right buttons can also be used for this purpose. For live performance reasons, if it is more useful for the step buttons to continue to edit the parameter value as is normal, you can select the value option to preserve that behavior.
