By turning the knob on the home or step select screens, you access the pattern generate screen.

You will see the proposed pattern in yellow. If multiple channels are visible, they alternate yellow and orange.

Pattern basics§

The direction you turn the knob determines the type of pattern generated.

Turn it anticlockwise and you will generate patterns based on intervals, starting with an interval of 1 (every step selected), then every other step, then all the way out to a maximum of every 15th step.

Turn it clockwise and you will generate Euclidean patterns, starting with 2 occupied steps and proceeding up through 16 occupied.

No matter which direction you turn the knob at first, you can always come all the way back and around the other way to change your pattern type. Hiding between the two pattern types is the no-steps-selected pattern, which you can select to quickly unselect all steps.

The pattern length does not have to match the sequence length. The pattern repeats to fill the sequence. By default, the pattern length is 16, but it can be any value from 1 to 24.

You can rotate the pattern within the sequence to line it up how you like, with the left and right buttons. By default, for instance, an every-other-step pattern starts on step 1 (the "downbeat"). If you wanted to select the "upbeats", you'd press right once to rotate the pattern.

Fill selects additional step after any pattern-chosen step. An every-third-step pattern with a fill of 1, for example, selects 2 of every 3 beats. You can adjust the fill between 0 and 64 by holding page and pressing left or right.

Operations§

You can choose how the pattern is applied: overwriting the current pattern which is chosen by default, adding to it (sum), inverting it (xor), or subtracting from it (difference).

To return to overwriting the current pattern, choose the same operation twice.

Pattern memory§

In a future version, you'll have three slots of pattern memory with which to save and recall patterns. For now, you can recall the latest committed pattern.

Committing a pattern§

To commit a pattern for a channel, press any step button within that channel.

If you came here from the step select screen, then upon commit you will return directly to the parameter screen. We bypass step select on the way back so you can immediately start adjusting the value.

If you arrived on the pattern screen from the parameter screen by holding shift and turning the knob, then letting go of shift immediately commits the pattern for all visible channels. This is a great way to select patterns extremely quickly during live performance, though not all pattern features are accessible due to shift being held.
