The 2step Sequencer§

Hello! Welcome to the 2step operating manual and quick reference website.

If you're here trying to remember something, choose the appropriate category from the navigation to quickly access a refresher.

If you're new here, take a look around the different styles of material available.

• The world map and quick reference are not web-optimized, but provide a really effective one-stop visual overview of the operation and theory of 2step.
• This manual is organized in categories. The theoretical material and the operating details are presented separately, which keeps the structure clean but means there isn't as much of a linear narrative. Links are provided between the theoretical and operational pages when relevant.
• Most pages of the manual also contain, usually at the top, helpful quick reference diagrams and tables.
• The walkthrough in the Patchbook illustrates the main theory and operation of the 2step in more of an introductory narrative fashion. It's a great place to start if you want to get going quickly, or learn best by doing.
• The video manual is available for those who prefer to learn by watching and listening. It presents a hybrid of the two approaches, starting with an introductory narrative but subsequently presenting the details in clean categories.

The 2step itself is best thought of as two devices married into one: at its core is a shape generator, which is then controlled by a 64-step sequencer built around it. You can find a detailed discussion of the shape generator in the Shapes section, and a deep dive into the sequencer and its features in Sequencing.

You can find a detailed description of each screen in 2step in the Screens section, or if you're just trying to remember how to do some specific thing you can do a quick search in the Tasks area.

Last, some extra details about live performance features can be found in Performing, and a quick reference and in-depth look at the various settings in Settings. Patch ideas, which highlight and illuminate the radically different tasks a 2step channel can perform, can be found in the Patchbook.
