Performing§
2step has a number of features and consideration to aid live performance. Though most of them are covered elsewhere in this manual, this page gathers them all up into one spot for your digestion, along with some useful tricks.
Looping and sequence FX§
2step can loop a section of steps for each channel. It can also temporarily lock itself to any step and optionally crank the repeats up to ∞ as live sequence FX. Parameter revert§
While editing any parameter value in 2step, you can press to quickly revert it to its pre-edit state. This is extremely useful for risers and drops during performance, allowing free adjustment on the knob knowing the changes are easily reverted the moment is pressed.
Live-adjusting all steps§
While performing with 2step, you will discover that channels with step customizations are difficult to live-adjust. If you adjust the channel value, this only affects steps using the channel base value. Steps with custom assignments remain as programmed. To resolve this, use the pattern generation feature to select all steps (hold and turn the knob slightly anticlockwise until all steps light yellow, then let go) and adjust all steps that way.
This creates a step customization for every single step, but you can easily revert all your live edits by just pressing to restore the pre-edit value. This clears all the new step customizations back to reading the channel base value.
Patch load cueing§
When you load a saved patch in 2step, it does not happen immediately. It waits for the end of the sequence (as seen through the eyes of Channel A), and loads on-beat with the start of the sequence. You will see visual feedback of this cueing as it proceeds.
To hasten this such that the load happens on the next step, press once.
To hasten it such that it happens immediately, press a second time.
Patch load continuity§
In 2step, a number of system and patch settings control the continuity of each channel's current step and voltage when a load event occurs.
By default, all channels reset to the top of the sequence at 0 volts out for all loads. You can instead choose to have each channel instead retain its current step location or recall the one saved with the patch, and same for its output voltage.
You can choose different preferences depending on whether the load was hastened or not.
Settings deferral§
Relatedly, the clock and patch load settings in 2step are shared between the system and patch levels. By default, the system settings override the patch settings. Set the system setting to defer, however, and the patch setting is used. In this way, you can utilize different patch load behavior across a live set, but use the system overrides to enforce order when you need it.
