Channel settings§

2step offers extensive channel settings, allowing you to completely reshape the function of any channel: reroute its clock source, disable stages of the envelope, change how trigs are interpreted, and much more.

Page 1: Clock and Mode§

We tried to put all the most important options on the first page here. The first five options in channel settings are independent toggles for each of five clock sources. The last two options control major mode toggles.

Main clock source§

This is the default option. It uses the system clock as the channel clock, whether you are using the internal clock or an external input in the w/step input.

CV X clock source§

Enable this to allow trigs on input x to trigger steps on this channel.

CV Y clock source§

Enable this to allow trigs on input y to trigger steps on this channel.

CV Z clock source§

Enable this to allow trigs on input z to trigger steps on this channel.

EOC clock source§

defer

Enable this to trigger this channel upon its own end-of-chain (the completion of the final repeat).

Gate mode§

Coming in a future update, enable this setting to interpret clock sources as gates rather than trigs: rather than run through its envelope stages on schedule when the clock trig is seen, the envelope will skip to the releasing phase as soon as the gate ends. If the gate is still held when releasing is naturally reached, the envelope will pause on the set phase until the gate ends.

This setting applies no matter the clock source, and if multiple sources are enabled they are summed into a single source for the purposes of this interpretation.

v/oct mode§

This setting may be removed in a future update, if we are able to add a v/oct quantize parameter. This new continuous parameter (0-100% quantize) would succeed the binary toggle setting here, offering more control.

Enable this setting to force v/oct quantization on the set and release voltages. The channel final output is not quantized, rather then set and release points are. This means smooth glides are still possible with some slew but the final resting points will be in tune.

The parameter edit display changes to a keyboard layout when you enable this toggle.

Page 2: Advanced behaviors§

Release stage§

By default, the 2step proceeds through the envelope stages delay, setting, set, releasing, and released, with some number of repeats. If you disable the release stage completely with this setting, it will skip the releasing stage, proceeding straight to released and possible repeats without performing a second slew (instant or not) to the release point.

This can be useful for simplifying the 2step model in the face of unique signal inputs and audio rate operation.

Force release§

By default, each channel's voltage is not reset to anything but is preserved when a new clock trigger arrives. This means it can go straight from setting stage to setting stage if it never meets its target. This is expected behavior for a slew rate limiting device, but somewhat less desirable for some uses as an envelope generator.

If you prefer every clock trig to perform an independent envelope from scratch, you can use this force release setting, which snaps the channel voltage to the current step's release voltage when a clock trig comes in to start a new step.

S&H repeat reset§

defer

2step generates a unique random value for every possible destination upon every clock trig: all parameters and mappings on each channel receive their own random value.

To re-sample all of a channel's random values each time a repeat kicks off, you can enable this setting.
