Chaining stepsยง

An upcoming feature in 2step, chaining steps lets you combine the shape output of multiple steps into a single "virtual" step that plays through each time the combined step is triggered.

With this feature, you can create elaborate shapes and LFOs, and if you enable the gate mode you can create multistage held envelopes that mimic and exceed the functions of a true ADSR. You can, for instance, create an ADSR with piano-like sustain decay.

Under the covers, this works like a temporary autoplay applied to the chained steps leading up to the last one which works as normal. The steps do not magically merge into one in the eyes of the sequencer.

This means that if for whatever reason the sequencer jumps to the middle of the chained sequence, it will begin from the targeted stage and proceed through the rest of the chain. There may be an option that forces chains to play from the top if the sequencer lands in the middle.

A trigger/step advance mid-chain, however, will skip the rest of the chain and resume on the step following it.

Once the feature is available, hold one step on the home screen, then hold another. An animation will play and you will see a shaded region indicating the chain. To delete the chain, hold the same buttons again.
