There are two memory facilities on 2step, both accessible from the home screen by pressing mem. When you first arrive on the memory screens, you will see the patch load menu, which you can flip over to patch save by pressing mem again. If you press left or right to undo or redo, you will switch over to the undo/redo menu.

If you press mem again instead, you'll arrive at the patch save menu. Press it one more time and you'll be home.

Patch save & load§

2step features 32 save slots. Each step button and light correspond with a save file, and you can press page to toggle between the two pages.

When you are on the load screen, the pagelights display a friendly green upwards animation. When you go to the save screen, they turn an angry orange and the animation pushes downwards instead. The currently loaded patch blinks.

When you save a patch, it happens immediately. The interface will freeze up for a fraction of a second as the data is written, but the main engine of the device runs without a hitch, so you can save during performances.

When you load a patch, it waits by default until the end of the current sequence (as determined by channel A). You can hasten it with shift—learn more on the performing section on patch loading.

Undo & Redo§

2step features a 64-entry undo/redo buffer, with rapid changes consolidated (sweeping the knob continuously, for example, will create only one new undo entry, at the final position). You can see and navigate these changes on the undo/redo screen.

As you can see, undo & redo entries are displayed in the two columns, undo on the left and redo on the right. A lit step indicates a history entry at that point, which you can jump directly to (applying all changes between your current point and the new one) by pressing its step button.

Other screens§

Other than toggling from patch load to patch save or undo/redo, there is nowhere to go but home.
